Modern....what is a meaning of word modern?
Does it only mean to wear all those short skirts and all kinda western dresses? Does by holding cigratte in your hand or by drinking alcohol can u be called modern? And also if you aren't religious are u modern?
Now I really have this question Are we seriously living in a so called modern society?
On the basis of my recent experience I am convinced that we actually are not living in the modern world. This kind of experience is an eye opener for me.Wanted to share this one with my readres.
It was October 2010, I had entered in my 2nd trimester of pregnancy. I was expecting our second child and was adviced to get the ultrasound done.I went to this Radiologist who while doing an ultra sound looked at the screen and then returned to me to ask,"Ma'am, what is the sex of your first baby?"
When I replied,"I have a girl.",there was a strange look on his face, which I felt, was just to provoked me to ask the sex of my unborn child. I controlled my emotions and thought it should better be surprise.
While coming back I ran in to my friend, a friend of whose is gyneclogist. She asked me about the health then she asked me if I am intersted to determine the sex of the baby. And told me she can help me out with this and also when I said no I want it to be surprise, she said ,"What if there is daughter again"?
I smiled back and assured her we will be happy in any case and we just want the child to be healthy.
Through out my pregnancy I encountered such people, I must add here, educated people of our modern society who adviced me either directly or indirectly to determine the sex of the child and to take the wise decision if it's a girl child. Every time I feel ashamed of being second girl child of my parents and feel proud too on them for giving me life.
And then that day came soon. On 24th march,2010 I gave birth to our second daughter,Shreya.
I still remember, if there were friends and relatives who shared my joy, there were equal number of them to extend their sympathy for giving birth to daughter again. Is it really something for which people should sympathize ? Since then, I have been asked several times by my friends again I must say, educated friends,"Will u plan for another baby?". Some other asked," Don't you get scared of thinking what will you do in your old age"? and millions of such questions just for not having a son.
This is a mirror of our modern society where people have such a narrow mindset.
This is my reply to all those questions I have been asked : I don't know what will happen tommorow and I am not worried for that. I live in present and at present I am too happy to raise my two beautiful girls. I am happy to live my childhood again with them. I want my girls to be a good human being and a responsible citizen of the society before making them doctors and engineers.
Modern is not just by wearing those western or adopting western culture...its about freeing our minds from such backwardness....
